Sometimes it’s the little things in nature that really catch my eye. This lichen was growing on the side of a very large pine tree. I approached the tree to get a closer look at something else when I noticed the tiny, bright red blooms on the lichen. Who knew that lichen actually bloomed?
Stunning. Love the abstractness.
Thank you.
Hard to say without seeing them up closer, but these may be British Soldier Lichens (Cladonia cristatella). I just did a post about the ones on my land, growing on an old pine stump.
Wow! Like you I spend a lot of times outdoors, and I’ve see lichens all the time, but never in bloom. Very nice catch!
Thanks Deb.
