Cycling Along the River

photograph of cyclists riding near the James RiverRiverside Drive, in Richmond, Virginia, is one of the most scenic spots I know of for cycling.  On any given Saturday or Sunday in the summer there are far more cyclists and runners on this road than cars.  Although this stretch is flat and runs right along the James River, the road also offers several steep climbs and descents.

Mistflower After the Rain

photograph of a mistflower plant after a rain stormI came upon these mistflowers in a meadow, after a rain storm in early September.  The rain drops weighed down the flowers and made them difficult to identify.  Regardless, these wildflowers provided the meadow with a pop of purple color.

The Hobson Plots

panoramic photo of a family grave siteI stitched together a series of photos to create this panoramic image of the Hobson family plots in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va.  It just seemed like the perfect post for Halloween.

Like all the photos on my blog, you can click on it to see a larger version of the image.

Wave of Cyclist

photograph of an approaching group of cyclistsIn every cycling event I’ve participated in, it seems like people ride in waves.  I got the impression these six cyclists were actually two groups of three that just happened to be riding at the same pace.

Tree Reflected in the River

Photograph of a tree and its reflection in the James RiverThis tree seems to own the end of this small island in the James River.  With the slow moving Autumn waters it seemed like an appropriate time to photograph the tree and its reflection in the river.

I merged two separate exposures to produce an HDR image that retained some foreground color but kept the sky from being washed out.

Gold and Red

photograph of yellow wildflowers with red leaves in the backgroundThese wildflowers already lost most of their pedals before I took this photograph.  I wanted to capture the bright yellow of the flowers against the backdrop of the red vine leaves climbing the tree in the background.
