Weekly Photo Challenge: From Above

photograph of a soda bottle and bottle cap

The late afternoon sun coming through my kitchen window provided an opportunity for a different perspective on a popular, refreshing soft drink.  You might even say this brand is a piece of Americana.  The marketing behind this beverage is so incredible, you’re sure to recognize it despite the fact the label is obscured and the bottle cap is completely out of focus.

Foggy Morning in the Neighborhood

photograph of a suburban street in the early morning fog

The trees, silhouetted by early morning fog, make the houses seem small and almost insignificant.  A neighbor’s porch lights offer the only evidence anybody else might be awake.  Within an hour this scene will be transformed into a more familiar arrangement.  It might be months or even a year before it looks like this again.

Flamingo 1

photograph of a flamingo

This flamingo stood out among the group of its peers.  It was a bit more relaxed and kept lifting its head, lending itself to a nice avian portrait.

Mourning Cloak

photograph of a mourning cloak butterfly on purple flowers

This Mourning Cloak butterfly stops to rest and feed in a patch of tiny, purple wild flowers.  I encountered it while hiking with a friend this spring in the Great Dismal Swamp near Suffolk, VA.
