Heron Feather On Stone

close up photograph of a great blue heron feather on a flat stone surface by Doug CouvillionHere’s my submission for this week’s photo challenge: Textures.

While paddling with my daughter yesterday I noticed this feather on a muddy bank of the river.  It’s rather large and was easy to spot.  I can’t be certain who the original owner was but given the location, the size and color of the feather, and the birds that frequent that section of the river I’m pretty sure it is a Great Blue Heron feather.

When I picked up the feather my daughter said exactly what my mother would have said, “You’re going to get mites from that!”
